It's that time of year again (seems to come quicker each year)to start making PUMPKINS!!!! I have tentatively decided on a clear glaze this year. With the native clays this should make a nice yellowish orange but I am planning to add some color to the stems. We will see, I'll try to post some pics ASAP!!!
I have made a nice selection of flower pots, etc and will be burning them next week ! A little later than I had planned but the first week of May. Yah!!!!
I burned another bisque burn in the Roman Arch kiln today (Wednesday). It was a smooth burn and thanks to suggestions from the burner manufacturer Mark Ward of "Ward Burners", it was a very even burn. When you are trying to archive a target temp. which is consistent thru out the entire chamber of the kiln can be a challenge. My kiln is approx. 4' by 6' by 6' so even temp can be a problem. With the suggestions from Mark it was an even burn with the pyrometric cones dropping evenly top to bottom!
The flower pot burn next week will be the first in a mid temp range, 2160 degrees. The bisque burn is about 1950-1975 degrees. Excited to once again have flower pots!!!
We have been invited to the new Grand Bay Welcome Center on May 26th to welcome visitors to our beautiful state and to Clay City. Cheyanne has volunteered to go and represent our business. She will be taking some mugs, Alabama ornaments and other ware showcasing our products. Thank you Cheyanne and the Docents at the welcome center!
Susan and I have been working on a collaborative series of vases. I turned the forms but Susan decorates them with an assortment of Flora and Fauna. They are lovely in bisqueware but should be stunning when finished. It's all up to the kiln gods.
